Can we still call India Democratic, secular, republic? The recent event at the temple of democracy shakes the faith of a common Indian who looks up to these politicians to lead the development brigade. As politics plunges deep in the trenches of shame with the money being shown in parliament, we should worry about the image of India to the world. We Indians are proud of our democratic traditions but along the way our political body is brutally murdering democracy to a point where it has lost the faith in the eyes of the people it was meant to serve. There has been an allegation of selling (or renting!!) of MLAs to decide the fate of the Government and if they are true then they should be made to pay a hefty price for it. If these allegations are proved wrong then also it will prove to be the death of democracy. With the changing occupation of Indian news channels these so-called guardians of democracy are giving yet another murky subject to talk on. The results will always show win of one and loss of another but the parliament has plunged helplessly to great depths of shame. This comedy of deliberate errors is yet another blotch after the battle with microphones and chairs in the year 1999.
How wondrous that we wake up living still,
Thus having found the freedom of a human life,
If I now fail to train myself in virtue,
What greater folly could there ever be?
How more could I betray myself?
How long can we fool the people, how long can we fool ourselves, how long can we fool our conscious? Even if they manage to fool everyone but they can’t fool their conscious.
The basic governing and development pattern is provided by the Direct Principles of Sate Policy under the Indian Constitution. These directive principles are extremely important to run the nation but then there is huge void. The void can be filled when we put the nation above personal political ambitions. The recent trends give me a feeling that all the political parties are trying to support their interests of being part of the government. The recent controversial atomic deal is proving to be an eye-opener where political parties still go to any extent to suit their interests. It is shameful that a government usually doesn’t lasts for the full term. It is obvious that each cabinet has its own policies according to political ideology and every new government changes them inherited by the predecessors. These power-hungry politicians should keep the nation’s interest above everything because it’s necessary to be a developed nation rather than who is ruling it.
