The engagement is scheduled on 30th of this month. I will be expecting you. Time and venue details will be conveyed to you in due course of time.”
Message Delivered 03-Feb-2009
Can this be a practical joke? Well if you think you are too good when it comes to exercising your grey matter then read again. A creative mind + a boring lecture + sleep conquering your senses = wicked practical jokes. Well I tried this out with a lot of my friends and check out the responses:
1) Have you doped??   {Amazing presence of mind!!}
2) Are you nuts??         {Na I lost them, any problems??}
3) What the hell??       {How am I supposed to know that??}
4) What are you going to do now?? {Am I getting married to an alien or do you think I am Gay?}
5) I feel so sorry for you!!          {Thanks for the concern!!}
And yes there are a few sensible creatures who could make out that feburary has 28 days. For those of you who read the previous line and said “Sh*t”, I can only say happy realisation folks!!

This was followed by more advices by 20 year olds on how to tackle this issue, felt as if all the agony aunts and misery uncles of town came together for “Save Yash Mission”. I think the problem is elementary that we didn’t pay attention when we were taught in kinder garden. Anyways thanks to all the people who were part of this silly sad practical joke and all those who missed out, please wait patiently.

Tensions of a 18 year old....

During a recent conversation with high school students who were my neighbors I was almost startled by the amount of frustration, pressure and anger they carry. The actual point of discussions were the contemporary fashion trends in schools but the discussion oscillated towards the emergence of education as a business. A bold statement followed, " The secret of education lies in respecting the pupil". It took me by surprise. I still feel that nothing in education is so astonishing as the amount of ignorance it accumulates in the form of inert, incorrect facts. On the other hand I have observed that things taught in schools and colleges are not education, but they are simply the flag bearers of education. Education doesn't teach us but it makes us ready to be taught, its something like excess of spoon feeding only teaches you the shape of the spoon in a long run. Well as usual i again probed these students and gave them questions to let out their steam!! Here are some dilemmas they face..

1. Insecurity about future and career:
An 18 year old class 12th student in the month of january faces the heat of The Board's Demons for sure. He/she is worried and concerned about the studies as well as about the future. "What am I going to do after Boards?", is the only reminder that keeps on beeping in the minds. While a lot of them are sure about their plans like appearing for IIT, Medical, Engineering etc but some others aren't sure of it. They are still in a deep slumber of purposeful ignorance. A lot of them face this problem and results in depression and panic. Effective counselling from parents as well as teachers is required. The parents should identify and understand the problems and look for solutions. The students complained about assertive nature of parents and teachers but felt fortunate that they have a Plan B to fall back on. Snigdh is Science student and still has his eyes set on the Military services dream and is working hard for it.

2. Competition among friends:
Friends are like lifelines in these formative years of an individual. A recent psychological study in Student Psychology proves that one understands the friends more than parents. Competition among friends is always helpful as it pumps up the
desire to work hard and achieve better. Competition gives you the edge which makes you better than the best. Mihir, a commerce student from a very reputed Delhi school says that he never felt any kind of insecurity and on the contrary he felt happy for his friends doing better than him. Long way to go kid, this thinking will lead your way!!

3. Fashion Statements:
PHASON!! thats what is called in Delhi schools, is really running high. With the season of Conti-Parties (Delhi lingo for contribution) and farewells the couture quotient is a craze. The labels are amazing but surely burns a hole in the parents pockets. A 12th Science student Prerna, feels that when you are surrounded by all this the mind wavers a lot. But she is sure of not wavering from her chosen path. She even doesn't feel that labels define status but thinks that actions matter more than anything..

A great entertaining session of discussion ended on a high note with jokes all around, a special reference of Mihir's timing is worth mentioning...

Just another random poem with a nice moral

!For MY SWEET LITTLE SISTER!

I have in my hand two boxes,
Which God gave me to hold,
He said, "Put all your sorrow in Lead,
And all your joys in gold".
With this I am sure India will be able to produce the best “Working Class” by the year 2015. 570 million is not a small number, for the statistically challenged individuals I’ll give a better figure, it’s about half of the current Indian population. Yes you are smiling, no it’s actually a grin of ever increasing self-confidence and a proud-to-be-an-Indian feeling. Now let’s talk about the reasons that can make you sulk. Out of the mentioned 570 million people only 549 million are working (That’s still a huge amount), of these approximately 400 million are living in rural areas. Are you still smiling? What’s worse? Of the 400 million, 290 million are employed in agricultural practices. Well I am not complaining or trying to sling mud on the face of the brightest agricultural economy, it’s just the facts what I am quoting. A very reputed B-school conducted a survey and found out that of the total work force in our nation 40% are illiterate, another 40% are high school dropouts. Mathematically speaking, just 20% of our proud, energetic, knowledgeable and young work force has a graduation degree!
These simple yet scary statistics reveal the deplorable condition of our rural work force, story of hopeless, down casted Indian future. Young, but illiterate- India Can’t be proud of it? (Or is it?)

Sharmaji ki Kahani

Have we really achieved independence? The common man is still scared of politicians, police and internal security then how can we say that we have actually achieved Independence? Whenever a common man walks out of his house, he leaves behind a worried and concerned family, who, like him doubt whether he’ll return safely.
I have a question for the common man (say Sharmaji is our common man). What do you do when you have pests in your home? Sit back, relax, no tension and ask for assistance from neighbours or simply pick up a broom and a disinfectant? As the answer is clear the same should be with the Indian Government. Instead of crying for support from WEST, one should start cleaning up the mess on our own. Our Sharmaji is very frustrated. The government which he votes for is irresponsible and dishonest, the law and police which he looks up for safety is in a state of corruption beyond repair, the politicians are busy to rake money and garner votes. Sadly Sharmaji is not taking an initiative and is still buried in a surprisingly calm slumber of purposeful ignorance. But a day will come when Sharmaji will wake up and clean his house and that day the Government will stand with inconsolable pain of citizen power.
There is a lot of anger in Sharmaji and its better not to try his patience. Indians are resilient by force, not by choice. We are masters when it comes to adjusting and getting used to situations, an incident like 26/11 will force us to flip TV channels, enjoy the show, call up peers and send SMSs. Instead of fighting with it we prefer to adjust. An event like this indicates the failure of our system and questions the competence of our government. If Sharmaji gears up to fight, the so-called civilization’s hierarchy will be disturbed. These attacks are much more than terror strikes, it’s a question against our governance, our competence and our ability to return fire.

What happens if you don't get a job even though you are hired!!

The economic slow down has surely affected us all, well there is nothing new about it which i want to tell anyone, but i have a story to share. A story of a small town student who came to Bangalore to study. The family was a typical middle class one and the parents expected a lot from him. There is no twist in the story and Our Hero finishes his graduation in flying colours with top grades. He gets a campus placement in a top IT company on the basis of his performance in interview and grades. He gets the offer letter but till today 6 months after that he hasn't recieved THE CALL. I am very sure that more then half of you wont either realise or understand his sorry situation. The poor chap is left JOB (less) even after succesfully finishing his graduation. He knows very well that it is because of the economic slowdown. The company cannot recruit more workers and has to cut down the costs also. The company policy says that it can't fire workers without a reason then why do they give hope to anyone? If they cant cut jobs then why hire more talent and leave them JOB(less)??

Today no one can say that India has a dearth of talent, but as per the current trends we need to protect them and not leave them without a hope. imagine urself in a situation where you can boast of being recruited by a top company but then you pass six painfull months without joining it. My appeal to the HR hunters ( yeah thats what i call the) is simple, Don't hire and give hope if you cant take them in.

MSD- A phenomenon

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is still like a work of art in progress. You will surely fall in love with his sixes and in the same way you will also admire if he had to bat out of his skin to save a test match. His glovework is incomparable and inrecognisable from his early miserable days. He has succesfully turned the theory that wicketkeepers can't be winning skippers over the head. He was reported to get tough on seniors and extremely generous to youngsters. A few things which I like about him is clarity of mind, strength of conviction and originality. It requires enormous reserves of strength, both physical and mental to rise above the friction which is the bane of an Indian skipper. Somehow in between his his responsibility as a batsman, keeper, skipper, motivater media, social commitments and etc etc MSD hasn't slipped from his exciting cricket standards and cricket is still his priority. Dhoni has managed in a year what skippers don't achieve in a lifetime. Every milestone of his has been a breakthroughmoment fo Indian Cricket. Twenty20 World Cup, wins in Australia and Sri Lanka and now an expected series triumph against the test champions would certainly inspire generations. He has given a thrust to Indian Cricket at the right transitional moment. It has been one of the game's mysteries and life as how unconventional heroes emerge from the unlikeliest of sources. Dhoni, with his background, his unorthodox grounding and a technique which surely isn't a purist's delightis a classic example. He is like a prized fighter in the ring who knows the art of survival and can turn the game in an instant. CHEERS MSD!!

Promos, publicity,moolah and cricket(also)

Lalit Modi, CEO of Indian P r e m i e r L e a g u e countered Rahul Dravid's comment of hoping not to be “sold” again by stating that “In the next season, Icon players' fee would be hiked and they would be re-auctioned”. For some stalwarts, it's the Indian Cricket getting benefited, for some its players raking cash, but for me it's the BCCI who is having a joyride of its life with money and power.

The Indian Cricket Board is unarguably the strongest among its competitors and has proved its might again. The multi billion dollar extravaganza treated as an extended World Cup has proved to be a hit. Broadcast Partner Set Max saw its TRP rising much above the Saas Bahu Sagas, DLF saw its entire residential project sold out (even the first brick wasn't laid), Provogue, Godrej and many more of super brands have cashed their brand value tremendously. The cricketers are also getting benifitted as their contract amount a starting salasry of a common B- School pass out by a few lacs. The U-19 World Cup players were costing around Rs 20 lacs and Ranji Players came with a minimum Rs 8 lacs price tag. Politics is also playing a significant role. Let's not forget Lalu's son Tejasvi who was just a budding school cricketer and still got drafted in the Delhi Daredevils team. Shahrukh's promotional strategy and branding as villains backfired after a lacklustre show post-Aussie onslaught. For years altogether, the Indian weddings were considered as a status symbol and celebs flew over for having a traditional Indian pomp and show and termed it as a Big Fat Indian Wedding. To me, IPL is just a Big Fat Indian Tamasha. Ekta Kapoor, watch the TRP's and learn something from Bhaji and Sreesanth on how to create a drama.

Friends!!

Friends--- Hmmm, the lists can be never ending but sometimes can never start too.
Friends for me were everything, starting from help in studies to picking up for tuitions to spending last minute revision before exams. These people are like fellow passengers in train, you meet them and within an hour you are giving advices about sex issues and periods. I was never alone and I always had someone to talk to, but there are times when the lists seem empty and there is no one whom you can talk freely. There is no one whom you can share everything and you feel helpless and suffocated. I am very sure everyone must have felt this at some point or other in life. Now the major thing to discuss is that at this point what should be our next step? Taking THE NEXT STEP can be very challenging and decisive. Usually what happens is that we bury the thought, feelings and ideas deep inside ourselves and are reluctant to share them. I sympathise with all those individuals who undergo this painful time. At this time we need a friend, a true one, whom we can share everything. These kind of Homo sapiens (we usually are friends with humans Na??) are an endangered species, very difficult to find. Even though we find them, it’s very difficult to overcome the initial hitch. Then a defining moment comes with some divine intervention and we overcome that hitch. This is a moment of realisation that this person is one shit-bag which will honestly and with full devotion accept all your trash. This one such feeling which most of us will never have for sure. Now for some lucky scoundrels this feeling might not make sense and for them I just have nothing to say. My moment of realisation came a long time back and comes again and again. No no!! I don’t need psychiatric assistance, it’s just that my father had a profession with frequent transfers to new places. I have had good friends and still remain in touch with most of them (Thank you Internet). I had good friends with both fairer and darker (oops!!) sex and never felt any difference between them (hmm.. Physiological?? Yes!! Obviously). It’s always a good opportunity to meet new kind of people and learn by observing their behaviour. One such I got when I did a couple of Internships with Mumbai Mirror in June 2007 and NDTV in Januarary 2008. Let me talk about it in detail.
MUMBAI MIRROR:
I was scared, honestly and I have no regrets for it. There were a lot of individuals and I felt like a clown among them. Day 1 and I wore formal clothes in an unofficial fashion house. Disaster struck me and I felt doomed. I had a gut feeling that I won’t be accepted in this crowd but I was wrong. I was welcomed, taught, pampered, loved, cared and even scolded. Some of the people whom I can never forget were Sheetal Shrivastav, Rhutu Kabe and Ranjib Mazumdar. I like a fresh chicken came to work before due time. I was working on my desk and didn’t even bothered to look here and there, not because i had loads of work but i was too scared (Felt like a nut between squirrels). Enter Shits, yes thats what i call her. An okay looking girl with truck loads of attitude inside her mouth comes and sits next to me. She looks towards me and says hi, courtesy some seniors i am introduced to her. Like a big earth moving dumper she dumps her attitude away which leaves me flabbergasted. I realise that all the Mumbaiker-good-looking-girls are not dumb. Surprising fact i learned a lot about my profession from her too. Jokes apart she is one hell of a good friend I ever had and even being not able to meet each other for the last 1 year. Rhutu Kabe, i called her Dodo, ya sometimes she used behaved like one!! One sweet girl who was innocent yet intelligent. Reason- you lose either of the qualities to gain another. She was blessed, indeed!!. She taught me to preserve my own identity and never to lose it in this thankless world. Ranjib Mazumdar, now guess his nickname? Sparky, well i never had the courage to re-christened him because i was scared. Ya i was a chicken, i mean i used to be a chicken. He was one such guy who could make you smile and also at the same time cry. His jokes were honestly not rib-tickling but better than other intellectuals who used to float around.
My next post, which hopefully should come up shortly is under process. Hang on for that.

Mission Istanbul: An Unintentional commedy???

Mr. Aporva Lakhia ( chichi director ) please stop copying stunt scenes. We Indians are very observing when it comes to cinematic plagiarism. Some very good Hollywood scenes were copied Arnold Schwazanegar in Terminator 2 with that multiple machine gun, Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible 2, Keanu Reaves in Matrix and they didnt even leave Dhoom also!!. Its a definate waste of time unless You wanna see Turkey and a wailing George Bush. The cast is amazing with Miss Vivek Oberoi ( who badly needs a haircut ), Zaayed Khan ( blown out version of Pamela Anderson) and the villain who tries to emmulate Bruce lee and honestly is no where near it. The film has a good concept and story but fails to catch up with screenplay one can feel that its being dragged. Vivek Oberoi comes again in a trying-to-be-macho-man-look but fails as he lacks appeal. He looks more like a self-taught orthopaedic surgeon breaking bones. Some scenes are beautifull with a natural angle while others suck to an unimaginable extennt and can be called insipid. More justice could be done with acting and scene shots. rating is less than 2 out of 5. sorry Aporv but start with some more original and sensible cinema..

7-8 blasts cant stop bangalore!!

Just as the government took a breadth of relief and decided to work on policies, another jolt of terrorism forced them back to the thinking room. This is another horrendous act targeted on civilization and leaves many questions in our mind. there can be many reasons for this attack:-
1) Bangalore is the IT backbone of India
2) Its still literally untouched by terrorists in recent past; it might be there prestige issue!!
3) Another attack down south below the satpuras might prove some points from these terror outfits
These blasts might prove the impact and pressence of these outfits down south and immediate stringent actions should be taken. No act of terrorism can be compartmentalized, and there can be no justification for terrorism on any ground. It is now inevitable for the international community to come together to combat terrorism in a long-term, sustained and comprehensive manner. the government should pull up their pants and i still feel they havn't taken any comprehensive action. The rising acts of terrorism are a cause of concern for the common man on the street and the government should put effective security mechanisms to tackle terrorism. Its not the high profile politicians who get affected but the common man walking on the streets.
As alert and responsible citizens, we must report any suspicious movements in our neighbourhood to prevent such a tragedy from taking place. We need to act in national interest or we might be the next target. Their intentions are clear, and our intentions should be---"crazy maniacs!! give us more, and we wont get scared and affected". These attacks are on the mind of a common Indian and will affect us in many ways but lets do our bit of fighting by being strong mentally and carry on with normal routine in extra zeal and vigour. The internet which was once a medium of getting information, fun and contact is now merging and paving way towards a futuristic mode where nothing is impossible as long as it’s virtual. Today’s flat Internet universe will soon be superseded by a 3-D landscape where we can actually meet, shop and chat like we do in the real world. This is the future of the Internet. The question arises that have we lost the knowledge in the sea of information? Many of advancement techies may advocate in favor but surely we have lost the wisdom in this never ending road to info-al-dorado!!. If we look towards changing face, we observe that once we just used internet for exchanging knowledge and staying in touch with peers and now the list starts with betting, gaming, piracy, pornography, virtual drugs and so on. The market value of the internet today is much more than the defense budget of India which is strange but true. The younger generation is of the opinion that times of being a dodo are over and its now socially necessary to have an account on networking sites. The educational aspect is also growing with the universities and colleges providing e-education but its still been over-shadowed by the business of entertainment. The psychological effects are equally stunning with individuals contracting socially unacceptable behavior. The blame can be shared by the hype created by humans for internet and the techompetition. An obvious conclusion or inference can be derived that the Internet was once a medium of acquiring knowledge, staying in touch and fun. As per the contemporary origins it has slowly converted into a medium of deriving pleasures and also into the dark world of money, drugs, sex and shame.

Innovation or Improvisation??

Innovation or improvisation??
The discussion started in a traditional and culinary conservative family that whether food can be cooked in a microwave oven or not. The conclusion was derived immediately and accepted by all the intellectuals that the traditional Indian cooking is time consuming and it is not be possible in all seasons. The quality, flavor and aroma cannot be achieved with microwave cooking. One of the so-called individuals commented and missed a couple of words called improvisation and innovation. This resulted into a heated and monotonous yet productive conversation with a lot of skin saving help from a dictionary. The literal meaning in colloquial understanding was that both the words were same. The consultation of dictionary proved all of us wrong barring one. Innovation means development in the filed of technology and upgrading everything possible. Improvisation on the other hand means alteration of usable articles and practices according to our requirements. You must be wondering what is the relation between microwave cooking and this literal debate. An obvious conclusion is that we Indians proudly copy the new innovations in the field of technology in our daily routine to ease the pressure. We improvise our style to suit our interests. We are improvising everything and loosing our legendry heritage and blaming it on innovation. The values of the microwave generation not only in cooking but in all walks of life are slowly degrading and we are proudly calling it innovation. The fact is we are improvising everything according to the socially acceptable and sometimes morally insipid requirements ending up loosing on the moral front.

Local warming ki Pribhasha ( Defination)

The need for the hour is to fight against global warming. Everyone from AL gore to a Paanchvi ki madam is speaking about it. But we as individuals, instead of fighting global warming at a large scale, can start the quest quietly at the local level. “Local Warming” A term that most of us are aware of, is the basic building block of this danger. Organizations and individuals have already waged a tough, never-ending battle but lets start with something on a smaller scale. A scale we can effectively work on to get something productive. Its practically not possible for all of us to stand up, speak and work towards a difference, so we should work on a smaller yet productive stage. The world needs heroes and heroes are not made, they are born. Each and everyone of us is a hero, so lets show our heroism for something small like over a locality or even our building. The work on our surely wont be tedious. Children can start taking care of their play fields and not allow anyone to burn garbage. The women folk can just simply clear up household wastes in bio-degradable and non-degradable categories. The effects would be very small and negligible but in a long term owing to time magnification, they would be startling and huge. In a long term process and out of habit of copying many will follow the suit and it can start of as a phenomenon. The working class can start car pooling or observe no-fuel-consumption days which will help conserve energy. These small alterations to our lifestyle wont affect our daily chores as assumed. Individual housing societies and infrastructure developers can start recycling plants. One green society can be envious to all and it will be followed by everyone around. As they say “Innovations can become a Fashion”, these small innovations can be used as “I am living in a Green Society Style Statement” and is also a very good and healthy competition. Not everyone can be Al-gore but still no one is less than him. Everyone of us has individual grey matter to think and apply change, so lets do it to save our planet. The local warming if controlled can result in a small difference over the climate of a major geographical area. In due course of time it can magnify and changes will be life saving. Neil Armstrong said “ A small step here will be a giant leap for mankind”, when he landed on moon. Similarly lets work hard because “ some small steps here will be a giant leap to save Mankind!!”.

The Changing occupation of Indian News Channels

A boon for the professional Saas-Bahu sadists and silly comedy hunters, if you out of laziness or occasional work miss your favorite show then tune into any news channel to catch the highlights. For those of you who fall under this category, please stand up and applaud the patient hard work of the TRP predators. Since the onslaught of 24x7 news channels the development has been the key. The paradigm has shifted from journalism to sensationalism. In the mid-nineties how often did we see the story of Ravan and his Kingdom, the public polls on who is the murderer?? There have been numerous instances where the basic ethic code of Journalism has been crossed, if the government can ban some news channels for false and fabricated sting operations then even these provocative ones should be dealt with some amount of seriousness. If we look towards the quality of reporting and interpretive journalism, its taken a nose-dive, while some channels have still preserved themselves and have carried on with some ethics the others have in my words “lost it”. The icing on the rotten cake is the language, tone and expressions used by the reporters and news readers which is nothing short of a linguistic disaster. Most of the times its just pure embarrassment, when you sit and watch the neo-idiot box with your family and they serve you a spicy hot dish of Malika or Rakhi Sawant, you give them a Not-My-Mistake! and Why-Are-You-Staring-At-Me? looks and fumble with a remote. The producers complain that they feel dehydrated of stories but why should they start with the diahorrea style drama?? God knows or The Supreme Court knows when the whip should be cracked or the noose should be pulled but till then lets leave our younger generation vulnerable to this infotainment.

Can we still call India Democratic??

Can we still call India Democratic, secular, republic? The recent event at the temple of democracy shakes the faith of a common Indian who looks up to these politicians to lead the development brigade. As politics plunges deep in the trenches of shame with the money being shown in parliament, we should worry about the image of India to the world. We Indians are proud of our democratic traditions but along the way our political body is brutally murdering democracy to a point where it has lost the faith in the eyes of the people it was meant to serve. There has been an allegation of selling (or renting!!) of MLAs to decide the fate of the Government and if they are true then they should be made to pay a hefty price for it. If these allegations are proved wrong then also it will prove to be the death of democracy. With the changing occupation of Indian news channels these so-called guardians of democracy are giving yet another murky subject to talk on. The results will always show win of one and loss of another but the parliament has plunged helplessly to great depths of shame. This comedy of deliberate errors is yet another blotch after the battle with microphones and chairs in the year 1999.
How wondrous that we wake up living still,
Thus having found the freedom of a human life,
If I now fail to train myself in virtue,
What greater folly could there ever be?
How more could I betray myself?

How long can we fool the people, how long can we fool ourselves, how long can we fool our conscious? Even if they manage to fool everyone but they can’t fool their conscious.
The basic governing and development pattern is provided by the Direct Principles of Sate Policy under the Indian Constitution. These directive principles are extremely important to run the nation but then there is huge void. The void can be filled when we put the nation above personal political ambitions. The recent trends give me a feeling that all the political parties are trying to support their interests of being part of the government. The recent controversial atomic deal is proving to be an eye-opener where political parties still go to any extent to suit their interests. It is shameful that a government usually doesn’t lasts for the full term. It is obvious that each cabinet has its own policies according to political ideology and every new government changes them inherited by the predecessors. These power-hungry politicians should keep the nation’s interest above everything because it’s necessary to be a developed nation rather than who is ruling it.
